The National Honor Society has been bringing students with high academic achievement together for years. However, National Honor Society is more than an academic club; it encourages admirable actions in the community and world. Here at Dartmouth High School, we plan to continue this tradition by increasing fundraising and getting more students involved in community events.
Pennies for Peace is an organization dedicated to providing better education in rural regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is a program of the organization called Central Asia Institute. The Institute was founded by Greg Mortensen, author of Three Cups of Tea and Stones Into Schools. All of our fundraising efforts this year will benefit Pennies for Peace. Last year, Dartmouth High School’s NHS Chapter raised $800.00 for its global project. This year’s NHS hopes to raise more.
In order to raise more money, the DHS Chapter needs to increase the efficiency and quantity of fundraisers. A car wash is scheduled for Sunday, September 19th at the Middle School. Other goals for the Dartmouth High chapter of National Honor Society are to increase participation in after school tutoring at Our Sister’s School in New Bedford and to continue the enthusiastic level of support for Project Upgrade (tutoring at DHS) and the Senior-Senior Dance held at the Council on Aging. With the support of the community and the participation of the more than 58 members, the DHS Chapter can reach its goals and make a difference
