Muddlin’ Around 9/17/10

Ten Signs it’s the First Day of School
We have successfully completed our first day of school. I say ‘our’ because it requires more foresight and get-it-togetherness on my part than on any of the five kids I deposited seconds before the tardy bell rang this morning. Which is unfortunate, because looking at my list, I could really use a little foresight and get-it-togetherness.  Here’s how I knew it was the first day of school:

10. The kids are bored with the pool – bored!

9. Yesterday I sold my left kidney to buy new school shoes for all the children.

8. One of the five children was up all night long with various requests (water, lights on, what time is it, is it really school tomorrow, chase away the scary dreams) meaning that more than one pot of coffee will be required in the morning to get my engine revved.

7. The 13 year old woke up with a bloody nose.

6. The 9 year old has a stuffy one.

5.  The kids are actually interested in eating peanut butter again.

4.  We seem to be all out of jelly for the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

3. Which is good because we are also out of bread.

2.  Today as I get ready to walk kids to school, I find that the double jogging stroller has a flat tire, but not until after I’ve hauled it out of the back of the Suburban, put it together, strapped two preschoolers in,.. ARGH!

1. Could it be possible that my 11 year old has run out of animal facts to amaze me with? When he starts asking if fish have tongues, it’s time to send him to an authority; a teacher.

It was a good day, and all the kids seem to have survived it. Only time will tell if I survive back-to-school night. By the look of the take home ‘have-your-mm-sign-this-before-you-come-back-to-school-tomorrow’ packets, I need another pot of coffee.
